artemide ’alambicco’, design by neil poulton 2024-26.

first shown as a prototype at ’light & building’ in 2024 “alambicco is a modular light fixture that captures the beauty of blown glass”.
handmade “mouth-blown” murano glass modules are sleeved over an extruded aluminium structural frame, housing state of the art LED motor and optics.

in italian “alambicco” means ’alembic’ –  as in a liquor still, an apparatus used to distill spirits. the alambicco range is a distillation of traditional craftsmanship and state of the art technology.

the ’balloton’ technique

“alambicco is a masterful composition of murano glass modules, crafted using the ancient venetian “balloton” technique, where molten glass is mouth-blown into a patterned mould to create a raised diamond texture.
due to the artisanal, handcrafted nature of the technique, each glass module is unique and presents delicate variations in form.” — artemide press release.
