scopas is a led suspension lamp designed to disrupt the traditional model of a spherical lamp – it has no central light source.
partly inspired by the always-incomplete (but always fully functional) ’death star’ from star wars, the lamp is a hepworthian study of the connection between negative and positive space. its seemingly incomplete structure changes appearance and physical form depending on the point from which it is viewed.in 2018 scopas was inaugurated into the first permanent scottish collection of v & a dundee (victoria & albert museum, dundee, scotland). the museum features an interactive installation which invites visitors to design their own virtual scopas lamp.
